The detailed history of KTEL Xanthi

It is an interwar company, serving its region. Marked by the horrors of the Second World and Civil War, it subsequently experienced a new economic boom, and it is in this buoyant context that KTEL Xanthi was born. The modest beginnings, for a regional ambition of KTEL Xanthi, a small local company driven by the strong desire to meet the needs of the population in terms of transport. The bus network was limited at the time, but the company showed unwavering determination.

• The history of bus transport begins sometime before the 1940 war, a time when each owner had an operating line. During the war, all the companies made their buses and services available for the transport of soldiers. After the war, they obtained a new license from the state and continued to operate their lines which connected different points in the region of xanthi.
• In 1957, a common bus transport fund was created, for better service to passengers. In 1967, a partnership between the KTEL of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace was established, but did not yield the expected results.
• In 1973, the KTEL Xanthi company became independent again, with its head office located in its operating area. In September 2003, the company took the form of a limited company, in accordance with the new law on public transport.
• Today KTEL Xanthi offers you a quality service with a fleet of 55 intercity buses, 4 tourist buses for the organization of excursions. Every day, a large number of students travel to their schools and around 4,000 passengers use the coaches to reach destinations such as Athens - Thessaloniki - Komotini - Drama as well as serving towns and villages in the region.
