• From 1952 to 1980, Creation and development. KTEL Lefkada was founded in 1952 by a group of taxi drivers, to provide a public transport service on the island of Lefkada. During the 1960s and 1970s, the company expanded its route network to cover the entire island. At the same time, it offered intercity transport services to Athens and Thessaloniki. By 1980, it had become the main public transport company on the island.
• From 1980 to the year 2000, Modernization and expansion. It was during this period that KTEL Lefkada began to modernize its bus fleet. It has also started to invest in new technologies, and in computerized ticketing systems. In 1990, it saw the inauguration of its new bus station and in the 1990s, its services expanded to other islands in the Ionian Sea.
• Since 2000, challenges and adaptation. The Greek economic crisis of 2008 had a negative impact on the KTEL Lefkade company, as on many others as well.
