KTEL ZANTE
KTEL Urban and Interurban buses are the first step in the organization of passenger transport in Greece, here is the history of Ktel companies since their creation, with a paralysis during the Second World War. The development of the KTEL network has paralyzed the development of railway lines across Greece by offering a wide network of destinations.
1939: The total number of intercity buses nationwide was 1,635 buses with 27,767 passenger seats.
1952: The law confirms the creation of KTEL company for each prefecture and each island. A total of 104 companies were created, 59 Long Distance and 45 Urban. In total a fleet of 3,311 buses with 79,464 seats.
1968: A ministerial decision (under the regime of the colonels) reorganizes the network by merging the various companies, to leave 8 large organizations with a regional structure, also known as K.T.E.Y.L.
1973: A new law restores the previous configuration
1984: A process of separation of urban KTEL from long-distance KTEL is gradually taking place.
2001: A new law completes and modifies the current one to create better prospects in the operation of KTEL.
2003: The law of 2001 is implemented, KTEL companies are now transformed into public limited companies.
